    Ho Chi Minh declares the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Hanoi becomes the capital but no countires recognize it as a regime.

    In the United States as people are leaving behind the Great Depression they are encourgaed to have children and move to buy houses. This begins the generation that would become known as the baby boomers. A huge population increase is seen in the U.S. while tensions rise in Asia.

    The Viet Minh Guerrillas begin and send shock and terror into South Vietnam. An estimated 4,000 South Vietnam officials are killed.

    In 1961 John F. Kennedy is inaugurated as the 35th president of the United States. Him and his colleagues will have a say in what happens in Vietnam and affect future presidents that deal with Vietnam as well.

    In 1962 the United States militarty presence begins to become higher and by the end of the year there wil be an esstimated 11,000 soliders in Vietnam.

    in 1963 the 35th president of the United States is assasinated while in Texas. Vice President LBJ is sworn in as the 36th president. He will play ahuge role in the war as it begins to intensify. It will take a huge toll on him pysically and emotionally as it was said he broke down crying when with his close friends over the war.

    The United States rolls out its Operation Rolling Thunder which was suppose to last only eight weeks. Instead it will last three years in which the U.S will drop four times the bombd that were used in all of WWII.

    In 1968 the Viet Cong. forces shock U.S. troops and heavy fighting continues for months to come. Even more Public support for the war begins to dwindle.

    On March 29, 1973 the Vietnam War is officially over.Over 3 million Americans servered, 60,000 died, 150,000 were wounded and 1,000 went missing in action. Up to this time it had been one of the bloodiest and longest wars in U.S. history.
