The Veldt

  • Introduction

    Introduction
    The parents, George and Lydia walk down the hallway of their highly technological house to the nursery. Lydia is concerned about it because it is different than normal.
  • The Nursery

    The Nursery
    The nursery has taken the form of an African landscape. George is concerned about how real the hot sun feels and the realistic scents. Lydia is tense about what the lions in the distance were eating. She had heard a familiar scream and felt uneasy.
  • Lions

    Lions
    As George and Lydia stand in the nursery, lions approach and start running at them. Startled and scared, the parents run out of the room. George tries to convince himself that the lions weren't real, that they were only simulations created from the technology. Lydia wants to turn off the technology in the house and live a normal life.
  • Dinner

    Dinner
    George and Lydia discuss the idea of turning off the house. During dinner, they reflect on how the nursery had showed the violent thoughts of their children.
  • Return to the Veldt

    Return to the Veldt
    The father runs back to the Veldt to test an idea he had. He tries to change what is in the nursery by saying "Aladdin!' The room does not respond. Frusturated, he returns to dinner to report that the room is out of order.
  • Forest in the Nursery

    Forest in the Nursery
    When the children get home, they are upset at the idea of shutting down the nursery. They pretend not to know that the nursery has an african veldt in it. When Wendy says that it is not Africa, the whole family goes to see a lush green forest. After the children go up to bed, George finds his wallet chewed up, bloody and covered in saliva.
  • That Night

    That Night
    That night, George and Lydia discuss how their children are spoiled and are being disobedient and secretive. They hear two screams from the nursery and realize that the children broke into the nursery. Lydia says that the screams are very familiar.
  • The Next Day

    The Next Day
    Peter is not happy about the idea of closing down the technology in the house. He complains about it. Later, a man named Mr. McClean came to analyze the mysterious problem in the nursery. He explains that the nursury reflects the thoughts of the children and that the children could be angry that the parents did not let them go on a trip or use some of the machines in the house.
  • In the nursery

    In the nursery
    While they show Mr. McClean the nursery, the lions feed on something. Mr. McClean says that there isnt a good feeling in the nursery. He said that the children were being affected by the nursery to think violent and destructive thoughts. He recomends that they get rid of the nursery and take the children to the psychologist every day for treatment.
  • The Scarf

    The Scarf
    They find Lydia's scarf on the ground and wonder how it got there.
  • Moving

    Moving
    The father insists that they turn off the nursury and take a vacation. The children are extremely angry about this and cry and wish their parents dead. While the father and mother get ready to leave, they allow their children to have one more moment in the nursury before they shut it down for good. The children call for the parents. When they arrive, they look in the nursery for the kids.
  • Veldt

    Veldt
    The parents walk into the nursery and get locked in by the children. Then lions come and eat them.
  • The end

    The end
    The stoty ends with the children having a picnic in the nursery when Mr. McClean comes looking for the parents. The children lie that the parents will be here soon.
