The arrival of Captain Cook on Australia
Captain Cook set sail on the 3rd of June 1969 in order to find the great unknown landmass known as Terra Australis Incognita. This voyage lead to him charting Australia's East Coastline in 1970 and eventually to him claiming Australia for the British. -
The Arrival of the First Fleet
When the British did not see fences and wall in Australia, it was declared Terra Nullius (No man's land). Due to overpopulation in British prisons and an inability to send them to America due to the American Revolution, in 1788-1868 ~165000 convicts were send to Australia by boat. -
First conflict between Aboriginal people and First fleet Arrivals
At Rushcutters bay in Sydney the first conflict breaks out between Aboriginal people and First fleet arrivals in Rushcutters Bay, Sydney. In this conflict 2 convicts are killed. -
The Second Myall Creek Massacre Trial
After the initial trial deemed them innocent, in the second trial 7 people were executed for the crime of leading away and killing at least 28 Aboriginal people. -
The Board of The Protection of Aboriginies is Established
This allowed the Govenor to remove any children from Aboriginal families to be raised in dormitories or sent to a reform school. As more are established these boards are pushed to remove more children from families. -
A Measles Epidemic goes through the Torres Straight Islanders
Measles is brought to the Torres Strait Islands via European settlers and kills ~25% of Torres Strait Islanders people due to no natural immunity. -

The Stolen Generation
The Stolen Generation is an event in which Aboriginal children were taken from their families due to the belief the Aboriginal people were "dying out". These children were to undergo Assimilation into white society where they were brought up in white families and taught "white" ideas. It began in 1860 when Victoria passed laws allowing Aboriginal children to be taken from their families. After Victoria the other states followed and the children taken became known as the stolen generation. -
The Initial Day of Mourning
A group of over 1000 Aboriginal people gathered at Sydney Hall to protest the treatment of Aboriginal people and the act of celebrating Australia day. Along with gathering at the hall, Aboriginal people refused to participate in a re-enactment of Captain Cook arriving on Australia's shore. -
NADOC week becomes known
From the initial Day of Mourning a date was chosen for an official Day of Mourning every year. It was changed twice before changing to NADOC (National Aborigines Day Observance Committee) week in the first week of July and later again to NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee). -
