Funan, was the first known Khmer empire in South East Asia. They had a very good civilisation. It was influenced by mainly Indian’s when they came to South East Asia by boat. They mainly influenced the Khmer’s culture, art and religions.

Another empire named Chenla which was in the northeast of the Tonle Sap. They later took over the Funan empire. Once they had overtaken. Some problems started to happen, because of this the Chenla empire split up into two groups. One was named Land and the other one was named Water.

He tries to expand the empire. And goes to war with the Cham.

He abandoned the Angkor Wat as the capital.

King Jayavarman the 2nd‘s empire is very big. He moves his capital city to Hariharalaya. He created his last palace and died.

We don’t know much about King Jayavarman the 3rd, other than he liked to hunt elephants.

He expanded the system of artificial lakes and irrigation canals.

He moved the imperial capital. He named it Yasodharapura.

King Jayavarman the 2nd comes to power and declares himself devaraja (god-king). Chenla is renamed and is called Kambuja (which is the origin of the modern named Cambodia)

There were many developments in this period. He builds the Angkor Wat.
