In 1607, the London Company founded Jamestown, Virginia. It was the very first english settlement. This colony was established for more profit in the New World.

Near the end of July, 1619, Jamestown had the very first elected assembly established. It was named the House of Burgesses. This was a big year for Jamestown.

In celebration of a successful harvest, Governor William Bradford held a big celebration feast during the year of 1621. This celebration feast was in the fall and during this time, the Wampanoag and all other colonists had shared food. They had celebrated this feast for three days!

In the year of 1622, John Mason founded New Hampshire. He had received a land grant from the counselors of England. Along with John Mason, John Wheelwright had been banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony and had promptly established the town of Exeter in New Hampshire.

In 1626, Peter Minuit and the Dutch had first established New York. New York was first founded by the Dutch and named it New Netherlands but then surrendered the colony. Soon after, England had taken over and named New Netherlands as New York. New York was named after the Dutch of York.

Maryland was established in 1634, by Lord Baltimore and Sir George Calvert. They named this colony "Maryland" because King Charles II wanted to name something after his wife.

In 1636, Roger Williams founded Rhode Island. He founded this colony because he did not like the religious rules. Separatists began to come to Rhode Island as well because they also thought that the religious rules were not fair.

North and South Carolina were founded in the same year, 1663. The colonies were founded by King Charles II. He established two proprietary colonies.North Carolina was given to the eight nobles by King Charles II.

It was in the year of 1664 that New Jersey was founded. Sir George Carteret and Lord Berkeley were the founders. New Jersey was named after the place where Carteret was born.
