Industry vs. Inferiority Erikson's fourth stage describes the crisis of learning cultural values and skills (Industry) or failing in competency in what is sought after in one's culture (Inferiority).

    Identity vs. Identity Confusion
    Emily (age 17) attended a band performance in her local community. She immediately connected with the people and knew she had found like-minded people. Identity vs. Identity Confusion Erikson's fifth stage is characterized by the crisis of not know who one is (Identity Confusion) and developing a sense of identity as a person (Identity).
  • Intimacy vs. Isolation

    Intimacy vs. Isolation
    Emily (age 25) has agreed to marry her long-time boyfriend of six years. She is excited to begin her new life with him and begin planning their wedding. Intimacy vs. Isolation Erikson's sixth stage outlines the crisis between becoming emotionally committed to others (Intimacy) over remaining isolated and uncommitted (Isolation).
