  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Britain decided to close off the newly opened western frontier to help calm the fears of the Indians. This was important because this marked a point where the colonist started to feel hatred towards Great Britain over how they were being governed.
  • The Stamp Act

    Great Britain had decided to impose a tax on paper in the colonies. This was important because it made the colonist feel as if they were not being treated as equally as the people back in Great Britain.
  • The Quartering Act of 1765

    The Quartering Act was an act that required the colonial government to pay for food and shelter of any British troops in their colony. This was important because the colonist saw this as another way that they were being taxed.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    After a mob of angry colonist surrounded a group of red coats while throwing snowballs and rocks at them, the red coats proceeded to fire at the mob and manage to kill 5 people. This was important because it lead to the evacuation of all British troops from Boston, and started propaganda on both sides.

    The British needed to sell tea to prop up the East Indian Company which was failing financially. This was important because the colonist saw this as a way for them to get support for the other taxes which then lead to the Boston Tea Party.

    The people of Boston disguised as Native Americans raided three ships and threw all the tea on the ships into the water. This was important because it fueled the fire between the colonies and Britain.

    A set of acts aimed at getting the colonies back into submission. This was important because it caused many problems for the colonist.
  • Boston Port Act

    One of the Intolerable Acts. The British had decided to close off Boston port. This was important because it stopped goods coming in from Britain.

    "The Shot Heard Around the World"
    British troops head toward Lexington and Concord but are confronted by the colonial militia and start fighting. This was important because it marked a point where the colonist began to fight for their freedom.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Colonial Congress makes the Declaration of Independence, a form saying that they deserve to be free. This was important because it was the first time the colonist had made something declaring their freedom.
