  • Compromise of 1820

    Compromise of 1820
    On March 3rd, 1820 a conflict went through the North and South states. The compromise stated that they did not want expnasion of slaves in the lousianna territory. They did just that but the confict rose because Southeners were extremely mad that they couldn't expand slavery. This Compromise defined the North and the South making it the beginning of a long and hard fought battle.
  • Wilmot Proviso

    Wilmot Proviso
    The Wilmot Proviso is proviso the was tacked onto a Bill that prevented slavery from being in a territoy owned by Mexico. This created a conflict because for the southeners, they are losing more and more land that could be owned for slavery but for the Northeners, they are earning an edge to the South giving them a greater balance in power.

    Free Soil Party
    On May 1st 1848 a thing called the Free Soil Party took place. Its Purpose was to oppose expansion of slavery in the Western Territories. The Conlict escalates over this because now that the Northerners are gaining more and more balance over the Southeners, this is making the Southerners very mad and weak.

    In 1850 California became a state. But, in their process of becoming a state, they made the difficult choice of not allowing any slaves to come to this state. The Southeners are angry over this because they wanted at least half of the state to allow slaves but when they didnt allow it, a Huge shift in balance took place.

    In the Compromise of 1850, there were five different factors that took place in this timeframe. 1. California Becoming a state. 2. Slave trade ending in Washingotn DC. 3. Fugitave Slave Act. 4. Texas and Rio grande. 5.Mexico no laws. The Conflict escalates after these battles because both the Northeners and Southeners are getting higher tensions between the two fighting to become powerful

    Fugitave Slave Act
    Fugitave Slave act was basically a Reward given by the Southeners for the Northeners to catch runaway slaves. The Conflict rises after this because the Northeners have to stand up against slavery making the southeners very mad. Tensions rise because if the Northeners stand up against slavery, it was illegal resulting in punishments to them
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    The Kansas-Nebraska act is a bill that would repeal to the Missouri Compromise. They then would have to vote whether or not the territory would be free of a slave region. The conflict in this is that both the Northeners and Southeners are illegaly voting and they both move into the terriotory. They are both fighting and even killing each other for balance among one another.

    Bleeding Kansas is about a man named John Brown in which he went into a cabin full of 5 people and killed all of them, The word went out to each side resulting in one another wanting to kill each other. The conflict in this is that because of what John did, each side wants to kill and start war. This is a huge factor in how the civil war started.

    Dred Scotts Decision
    Dred Scotts decision is about how Dred scott petitioned to become a free man but when his court case went tothe Supreme Court. Almost all the judges were pre slavery so they made him a slave. This is a conflict because they didnt consider him an american because of his skin color. His decision sent the entire counrty into a tailspin and mat have been one of the last straws in dividing the country.
  • Lincoln-Douglas Debate

    Lincoln-Douglas Debate
    Abe Lincold and Stephen A Douglas debated. Lincoln didnt want to abolsidh slaavery but he didnt want slaves to spreadto the new territories. Douglas liked if the states would decide if slavery would sread. The Conflict in this is that both sides like one debater making the tensions rise really high.

    John Brown is a man that stood up against slavery and fought for the northeners. WHen he died they considered him a hero. the conflict for this though is that the southeners got really mad that he did that and they didnt want that to happen again.
  • Election of 1860

    Election of 1860
    This election is about four people that fought for which choice is right. Abe Lincoln won this battle. THis is a conflict because Southeners didnt like that he was against slavery resulting an many fights. This is one of the main points in the beginning of the civil war.
