In 367 B.C. a new law was created that said one of two consuls had to be plebeian. Now there were two consuls, which is shown in the picture at the left.
-
The plebeians first demanded that the laws are written down on tablets called the Twelve Tables so that the patricians can't change them, the patricions agreed around 451 B.C.
-
Rome was split into two groups of people, the patricians(photo at the left), upper rich ruling class, and the plebieans, lower poor working class.
-
The Roman government went from monarchy to a republic where an elected official governs the people.
-
The plebeians marched out of the city and camped out until the patricians gave in. The plebeians wanted equal rights as the patricians and a share of the political power.
-
The plebeians gained a tribune, shown in the picture at the left, which is someone who represented the plebeians in the Roman government.
-
This is when the plebeians gained the right to pass laws for all Romans; the plebeians now had complete political equality.
