    The Union and Confederates debated if the New states could be Slave States.
    Henry Clay created a compromise that Missouri would become slave and Main would be free.
    The Missouri Compromise line was that any states north would be free and any south would be slave
  • The Nullification Crisis

    The Southern States did not agree with tariffs so the South Nullified the tariffs. John C Calhoun said that any state could nullify any law they thought was unconstitutional.
    The federal Government didnt let South Carolina nulfiy so Henry Clay compromised and lowered the tariffs.

    Congress debated over the new territories they earned from Mexico. They decided that California would be a free State and Congress would not ban slavery in the other territories

    Congress passed the Fugitive Slave Act. This let African Americans be captured in the north if they were Run-Away Slaves. The Act made abolisionist very upset and increased tession between North and the South

    5000 people to that Supported slavery came to vote to make Kansas proslavey. The Abolistionest from the north counter attacked and came to the Kansas to make it a free state. The proslavery people attacked the anti-slavery people.
