England has won the war over the French. In the effort to win the war, England has gained a war debt. England has no other choice but to put taxes on the colonies.

Once England won the French and Indian War, they gained a lot of land west of the Appalachian Mountians. The colonists want to live in that land, but England wouldn't let them settle pass the Appalachian Mountians. The colonists believed they had a right to settle where ever they want, so they sneaked past the Appalachian Mountians and settled as they pleased.

England put taxes on sugar, molasses, and other things. Colonists didn't agree with this act so they smuggled goods into the colonies, and many recived harsh punishments because they were caught. This act leads to James Otis's phrase, "Taxation without repersentation is tryanny." The colonists decided to boycott British goods and they sent a petition to England.

After repealing the Sugar Act, England put another act on the colonists called the Quatering Act. It requried the colonists to feed and home the British soliders. The colonists believed that their rights as an English citizen was being violated by England. So the colonists refused to let the soliders stay in their homes.

After the Quartering Act, England passed another act called the Stamp Act. This act made colonists buy an additional stamp for documents such as wills, contracts, newspapers, even playing cards. The colonists thought the act was unfair because they didn't have an input on the act. So they demanded the act to be repealed. The colonists burned papers, and held a Stamp Act Congress in New York City.

After repaeling the Stamp Act, England passed the Townshend Act. The Townshend Act, did not tax goods in the colonies but they taxed the imports coming to the colonies. These imports were lead, tea, glass, etc. The British made a law called the Writs Of Assistance which allowed British soldiers search the ships. The colonists thought it was still a tax. And they thought their rights were being violated. So they smuggled in goods and reduced the amount of imports.

The Boston Massacre was on March 5th, 1770 and happened on King Street in Boston. The time it happened was approximatly at 8:00 pm. It was winter, cold, and windy. The reason the massacre happenend was because colonists were losing there jobs and they were blaming the British. Then the colonists started an angry mob on King Street. An angry colonist called out "you can clean my toilet!" And the first shot was fired. Five people were killed and the first on killed was Crispus Attucks.

Crispus Attucks was an African American.The other people that were killed were, Sam Gray, James Caldwell, Patrick Carr, and Sam Maverick. Six people were wounded. And the cause of death for all the colonists was gun shot wounds.

The Tea Act of 1773 stated that the tea must be imported directly from the British East India Co. The tea was still going to be taxed 3 pence per 1 pound. The colonists were furious with this act. The act even put colonial merchants out of buissness. This act also gives the British a Tea Monopoly.

On December 16, 1773, 116 men and women gathared in Griffins wharf to take part in an act that no one will ever forget. Colonists dressed up as native Americans, and borded a ships importing tea to the Colonies. These colonists then destroyed tea that was worth more than 1million dollars in todays money.

The British respon with the coercive acts or the intolerable act. Closed the port of Boston. All trials were moved to England. Banned town meetings. Quartering act strentghened.

Paul Revere Made a ride around Massachussetts to warn people to get ready to fight. Paul was caputured so Sam Adams started his ride.

British troops head to Concord to seize the smuggled weapons. But thgey are met by the Mintutemen at Lexington. Altough onlyy 8 farmers died, The American Revolution has started. Nations knew this war would have a huge impact on the world. So this battle is known as "The shots heard 'round the world.
