    The Missouri Compromise
    A decision was to be made about the growing conflict of deciding wether new states are to be free or slave states. They had heated debates over the growth of slavery. Henry Clay settled the debate by coming up with a compromise that divided the nation by the Missouri eiver. States above were free and new states below were to be admitted as pro slavery states. It helped maintain a balance and settle the conflict.

    The Nullification Crisis
    Southern states thought tariffs only supported the North. John C. Calhoun declared that stents were allowed to nullify laws that didn't regard the constitution. After the U.S. didn't respect South Carolina they wanted to Secede. Henry clay came up with a compromise that lowered the tariff.

    After the war congress debated on many things including if the new states would be slave states or free. Henry Clay again made a compromise. California would be a new free state and congress couldn't make any laws that banned slavery.

    The fugitive slave act was passed in 1850. The act allowed owners to capture their runaway slaves. This act convinced the north that radical measures were needed. This act also raised tension and fear.

    The Kansas Nebraska Act was an agreement on slavery. More than 5000 people came from nearby proslavery Missouri and voted for slavery in Kansas which was illegal. The opponents started their own government for anti slavery. The anti slavery government was intruded by the silvery government of Kansas.     Dred Scott sued for his freedom from being a slave. He said that he should be free because of his territory. The court ruled that he was not free even though he was in Illinois and Washington and that African Americans were not considered citizens and that dred was property of his owner.

    John Brown inspire slaves to fight for their freedom. He wanted to capture the arsenal and arm the slaves. Brown and his army were caught. Anti slavery official saluted John as he was sentenced to death.

    Abraham Lincoln won in the north. Even though he said he wouldn't try to abolish silvery in the south. Southern stets secede from th union.
