    William Penn receives land in America as a gift from King Charles II. This would become Pennsylvania, and be under control of the Penn family until the Revolution.

    King George II gives a corporate charter to General James Oglethorpe for the land that would become Georgia. Oglethorpe made this land essentially a haven for debtors and poor colonists. By this point, the 13 major colonies had been established.
