    Jhon Bell was once an ally of andrew jackson, but then chose to oppose him earning him the name "The great Apostate"
    Even though he was a slave holder he opposed the expansion of slavery. He was elcted by the free-soilors party

    "Honest Abe" Lincoln
    Abe was born in a log cabin in kentucky
    Married into a higher class he became one of the most well-known Lawyers of Illinois.
    He served in congress from 1847-1845
    After the Kansas-Nebraska act he then started becoming a political figure and was now the nominee for the republican party

    Stephen here was a democrat; born in Brandon, Illinois he also became a lawyer
    He was the one that made the Kansas-Nebraska act which indirectly cause "bleeding Kansas" and it also made Abe resent him
    He was nominated by the northern Democrats not the southern Democrats

    Another lawyer,but this time from Kentucky
    This man served in the mexican war
    He was elected by the southern Democrats
    He was also Vice-president (1857-1861)
    He would later join the confederacy as secretary of war

    Lincoln challenged Douglas to a series of debates, to which he accepted
    Even though Lincoln lost at the end the plubicity that he got from them was an even greater price that made Lincoln a more well-known representitive
