Rule set by English government statng no settlements allowed west of the Appalachian Mountains. This made the Indian happy, but the colonists were upset.

Boston Massacre

5 colonists were killed by British soldiers during a protest.

Boston Tea Party

Dec 16, 1773

Protesting the tea tax, the colonists dump tea in the Boston Harbor.

"Shot Heard Round the World"

Apr 18, 1775

Fighting starts between British and colonists in the cities of Lexington and Concord. The American Revolutionary War (or War for Independence) has begun.

Declaration of Independence

The colonists officially declare their independence from Great Britain. Now they just have to fight for it!

Treaty of Paris (1783)
