Assassination of Franz Ferdinand
Franz Ferdinand is assasinated by a Serbian nationalist. His murder unstabliezed Europe which was already tensed to spark WWI. This was significant because this is what caused the uproar of WWI. -
The Real Beginning
Centered in Europe, 7 million civilians were killed, the death rate was so high due to the amount of new technology. It was one of the deadliest wars which made way for many political changes. Obviously this was influnced by the assassination. This obviously is signiciant because of the statrting of the world war. -
Germany Blockade
The United Kingdom announces that the North Sea is a military area, effectively creating a blockade of goods into Germany. Because no goods getting to Germany 763,000 Germans died from starvation, and disease caused the blockade to end. It was effective because the Germans were injured and killed. -
Gas
Germans fire shells filled with chlorine at allied lines, this was the first time large amounts of gas were used in battle. It almost collapsed the French lines but the Germans still couldn’t take advantage of the weak line. The first use of gas. -
Luistania Sinking
The Lusitania Sinks, it was a german ship carrying 1,198 people 128 of they were all americans. This happened because Germany waged submarine warfare against United Kingdom of Great Britian and Ireland. It was torpedoed. The significants would show that some people didn't take anything. -
Tanks
First Tanks were employed, they were the first tanks ever used in battle. They were used by the UK at the battle of Delville Wood. They were successful at breaking barbed wire and clearing paths. Explains the first tanks used. -
Germany joins
The United States declared war with Germany. President Woodrow was the one that declared it. Obviously this was a signifant case because this is when more peoeple joined the war. -
Making Peace
Russia signs the Treaty of Brest Litovsk, which is a peace treaty between Russia and the Central Powers. After two months of negotiation it was finally passed and put in place. This shows that sometimes there is a way to make things better. -
Fleeing and running away
German Kaiser Wilhelm II abdicates and flees Germany. He died at the age of 82. The reason he left was because the army leaders said that they didn't have any repect for him. Significant becasue it shows how much someone didn't like the war to run away from the problem. -
Treaty of Versallies
One of the peace treaties at the end of World War I. It ended the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers. This was significant because it ended the war and everyone had a peace agreement.
