Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York. When he was a baby his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. He was the son of James Jordan, Sr and Delores Jordan. He was the fourth of five children.

Jordan attended Emsley A. Laney Highschool. In tenth grade, he tried out for the varsity basketball team but didn't make it. During his junior year he then made the varsity team.

Michael accepted a scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.He plays for the Tar Heels. At the end of the season of 1982-1983,Michael was named College Player of the Year by The Sporting News.

By the summer of his senior year at North Carolina, Michael was debating whether he should leave for the NBA draft. He was later chosen the third player in the NBA draft.
