Opening Scene
At exactly 8:00 AM Arthur Dent wakes up and completes basic hygiene routines and eats breakfast. Later in the morning he finds that there is a bulldozer outside his house and prevents it from moving by lying down in front of it. -
2nd Scene
At approximately 12:45 PM near lunchtime Arthur and Ford Prefect go to the saloon bar of the Horse and Groom inn. later after several drinksthe Vogons arrive to destroy the Earth. Ford hitches a ride with them with Arthur in tow. -
4th Scene
At about 3:30 PM Ford, while onboard a Vogon ship, explains to Arthur that Ford came to Earth to do research for a book. Later they are apprehended by a Vogon guard and are read poetry by the captain of the ship. Later at about 4:10 PM they are thrown out of an airlock. -
5th Scene
Exactly 29 seconds after Ford and Arthur were jettisoned from the airlock they were picked up by the passing ship Heart of Gold. This ship is piloted by Zaphod and Trillian. -
3rd Event
On the planet Damogran at precisely the time earth is being destroyed Zaphod travels to the launch place of the Heart of Gold spaceship and steals it. -
6th Event
Very late at night the group of characters goes to bed and Trillian can't sleep. She happes to observe the viewscreen and glimpses the planet she and Zaphod had been looking for. -
7th Event
At an unspecified time in the early morning recorded broadcasts comme from planet Magrathea. This is immediately followed by two missiles being lauched from the planet's surface. When Arthur turns on the Infinite Improbability propulsion system without coordinates the machine simply turns the missiles into a sperm whale and a bowl of petunias. -
8th Event
The spaceship Heart of Gold lands on the planet's surface at an unspecified time. They look for a way to get inside the massive sub-surface architecture of the planet. They eventually find one and wander into a chamber filled with a gas that leaves them unconscious. Just before they pass out Zaphod relevates to them that someone had closed off a section of both of his brains so that he would pass the tests that would allow him to become president. -
9th Event
Late at night as Arthur stood guarding the entrance into the interior of Magrathea he met an old man named Slartibartfast. This man reveals to Arthur that the Earth was a computer for calculating the Great Question of Life, the Universe and Everything. Arthur watches a tape of the day the answer is revealed and finds that the answer is forty-two. This is why the Earth was created by the Magratheans. To find the Question to the Answer. -
Conclusion
As a conclusion the Group becomes hungry and decide to visit the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, which comes in the second book. -
Notes
The fictitious times used in this timeline, an approximation based on the production dates of the Ford Prefect car, are in no way supported by the author or publisher. 10th Event
After meeting the mice from an alternate dimension that had funded the building of Earth, They were confronted by police officers that were investigating the stolen Heart of Gold spaceship. After an acceptable period of open fire Marvin, a manically depressed robot that served Zaphod and Trillian, tried talking to the police officers ship computer and shared his view of the Universe with it. This caused the ship to commit suicide and destroying the police officer's life support systems.
