  • Development Begins

    The Development of Pinterest began on December 9,2009 by co founders Ben Silbermann, Evan Sharp, and Paul Sciarra.
  • Prototype Launched

    The first prototype of Pinterest was launched and the site was only open to people with invitation and a small group of colleagues and family members.
  • Pinterest gains users

    Just around nine months after the site was launched, Pinterest had gained 10,000 users. At the time, the site was still being operated out of a small apartment.
  • App is launched

    Early in March 2011, Pinterest launched it's first iphone app which brought in a more than expected number of downloads
  • Pinterest gains recogniction

    Pinterest was listed as one of the top "50 Best Websites of 2011" by Time Magazine.
  • Hitwise ranks Pinterest

    According to Hitwise data, by December 2011, Pinterest was one of the top 10 largest social networking sites.
  • Number of users skyrockets

    Comscore reported that Pinterest had reached 11.7 million users.
  • More availability

    People no longer need to request or recieve and invitation for the site. Along with that, a Pinterest app for androids and the ipad was launched.
  • New feature is announced

    This new feature allows users to report or block others for negative or offensive activity. This was created to keep Pinterest a "positive and respectful" site.
  • Pinterest is updated

    Pinterest introduced a new update, making images on the app larger and making it easier to pin photos from external sites.
  • Pinterest valued at 2.5 mil
