    We started sharing our art by cave paintngs and figures called venus, for the architecture we built menhirs, dolmens and cromlech, we used to bury our families there.

    In Mesopotamia people started to use mud bricks for building their cities and constructions called Zigurats and Floating Gardens
  • 3000 BCE

    Egypt

    Egypt
    They built temples for each god. At the end of each temple they built a statue of the god, only pharaohs and the priests could enter. They also built graves in the form of triangles. They sculpted a lot of statues with no expressions.

    Greece

    Greece
    They built simple temples adapted to the human dimension. They used maths to make them perfect but they were deformed by the human eye, so they would adapt the buildings. They also carved statues with very good anatomy, most of them dont have any expressions because for them, containing emotions its a virtue.

    Rome

    Rome
    Since they captured greece they stole their art but also improve it. They built temples, mausoleos, roman baths, theaters, amphitheaters, circus, triumphal arches, columns, roads, bridges, aqueducts and basilicas. They carved copies of the Greece's statues, but also started to carve realistic portraits.

    1st century

    The Christianity first starts, they had meetings in catacombs and they painted them (this is called paleo Cristiano), and then used the Rome basilicas but styled them to their beliefs

    10th century

    The religion brings a new style called Romanesque, they built constructions with very thick walls, used the vault and the semicircular arc as romans did. They covered the outsides with sculptures and the inside with paintings, creating new simbols: Jesus Pantocrator and Maria.

    12th century

    New ideas have come and create the Gothic style. The pointe arch, the ribbed vault and flying buttresses maked the weight of the buildings much less, so they were allowed to make thinner walls, taller cathedrals and put rosettes in the walls, making it full of light and color. Lots of cathedrals were built in the zone, the Notre Dame cathedral is probably the most popular. The sculptures are more natural, with more movement, they carved lots of sculpts of Jesus and Maria.

    15th century

    There was a lot of influence thanks to Giotto's paintings and maked a new style called Flamingo Gothic. Then Renaissance started, because of humanism people started to believe in logic, artists started to use Greece and Rome as a reference but improving their style. The gothic was forgoten ans they started to use lots of columns, arches and domes. The Vatican is an example of the Renaissance's style . The paintings were very popular. Rafael, Miguel Angel and Da Vinci are popular painters.

    Baroque started, a style where everything is much more. Borromini and Bernini are popular architects of the Baroque era. Bernini was the creator of the Baroque sculptures, instead of no emotions the statues would show just when the emotion is more intense. The glommy style in paintings is used. The gloomy style are the paintings with very marked contrast and light.

    18th century

    Rococo is a new style where the inside of the buildings was filled with lots of details. The ilustration has come and with it a new style called neoclassicism. They now didnt want lots of details, and went back to the Greece and Rome style, straight lines and simple designs. This style filled Europe but also the United States, the withe house has a neoclassicism style.

    With neoclassicism new styles started to show up, the romanticism, where emotions and imagination were embodied and the realism, paintings of social difficulties. Goya is an artist who painted in all the styles that he lived in. Also during that time the historicism started, a time when they started to build up constructions with the old styles but they didn’t use the old materials, they started to use iron and glass.     20th century

    Thanks to impressionism, artists liberates art from all that was already written, artists start to find new ways to express their art, many times provocatively. It starts in Paris, fauvismo colors, cubismo forms, perspective, expressionism distortions what is real, abstraction: doesn’t represent anything that you can see, suprematism, Dadaism the “anti art” and the surrealism. In the 50 years abstract expressionism: the important thing is what the artists wants to share and finally pop art.

    Now the other half of the 19 century, people who painted started to use the new invention “oils”, they went outside and painted natural views, but they had a really short time to finish, so they would do fast and imperfect strokes.
