  • The death of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and Sophie when visiting Sarajevo

    Both Ferdinand and his wife left to the capital of Bosnia. They both were riding in a car that wasn’t safe and where murdered by being shot by a man named Gavrilo Princip.
  • World War I starts

    Since Austria declined Serbia’s offer, Austria decided to start the war. Russia gathered their troops and headed to the Austrian Border. Europe was scared and tried to give more offers but they were too late. They started to quickly decline.

    The Schlieffen Plan

    The Schlieffen Plan was created by General Alfred Graf von Schlieffen. It was a war plan where the troops wanted to quickly fight in the West against France and then go back to the east and quickly fight Russia. They had to find a way to cross, and chose to go through Belgium, since it wasn’t secure.

    Allies developing alliances and winning wars

    The Russians defeated the Austrians twice in September. Alliances were created with Japan and Italy. Germans was going to have a great victory soon.
  • First Battle of Marne

    The attack was northeast of Paris, in a valley of the Marne River. All the soldiers that were available had to participate in the war. After around 4 days the Germans wanted to stop fighting.

    Trench Warefare

    Soldiers on both sides would fight through trenches which were parallel from each other. The trenches helped protect the soldiers from getting hurt and were one of the protections they used. The army that wanted to conquer this land wasn’t very big.

    Battle of Verdun

    Germans huge attack against the French. All the new tools used by the armies helped make war faster by using machine guns, poison gas, and upgraded artillery and machines. The Germans fight against France was near Verdun, where both sides lost many men.

    British army tried make it easier for the French

    Northwest of Verdun in a valley of the Somme River. The British tried to fight against the Germans. Many men were killed every day especially the first day, around 20,000 people died.
  • Unrestricted submarine warfare

    They wanted to find a way to cross the waters without having boundaries of where to go. The Germans created a plan saying that they wouldn’t tell anyone when they were sending their ships out. They didn’t care to tell anyone even if it was closer to the waters of Britain.
  • President Wilson Declare War

    Since the United States traded with France more frequently, and the war was happening. President Wilson asked Congress if he could join the war and they agreed, the United States joined the Allies, also known as the Eastern Front.

    Revolution Started in Russia

    Vladimir Ilyich Lenin who was a communist leader took power. He wanted to end being in the war, so he offered Germany a Treaty that was for peace.

    Germany and Russia Signed The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

    Russia was struggling on keeping this peace treaty because it made them give up lands that they were fighting for those now are independent countries.

    Allies and Germans Fought at The Second Battle of The Marne

    Allies had around 350 tanks which started to crush the Germans, and since America had joined it made the Allies stronger. Soon more places started to give up like the Bulgarians and the Ottoman Turks.
  • World War I ended

    Everyone that was fighting finally they were all in peace and there was no more fighting. They still felt mad and deceived.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    Both the Germans and the Allie powers found a settlement where they signed a document for peace.
