  • Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand

    Archduke Franz Ferdinad was assasinated on June 28th which was the spark that ignited a giant blaze. This set off a chain reaction within the alliance system.
  • Austria Hungary declaration of war

    In July 28 Austria declared war on Serbia. They said that they would not compromise with Serbia and so the war began.
  • Schlieffen plan

    In August, Germany began to come up with their plan of action for the war and named it the Schlieffen Plan. This plan was that Germany would head to France as fast as possible and defeat them first and then head to Russia who would have a harder time moving thier troops around becasue of lack of railroad.
  • First Battle of the Marne

    The Germans as part of there war plan were approaching Paris. On September 5th the Allies attacked the Germans. The fighting lasted four days until eventuall the Germans were forced to retreat.
  • Battle of Limanowa

    The Battle of Limanowa took place from 1 December to 13 December 1914, between the Austro-Hungarian Army.The Austro-Hungarian high command had assumed that the German success would weaken Russian forces in the north and that the Galician front would remain quiet. Both these assumptions were incorrect.
  • Dardanelles Campaign

    Dardanelles Campaign, also called Gallipoli Campaign, (February 1915–January 1916), in World War I, an Anglo-French operation against Turkey, intended to force the 38-mile- (61-km-) long Dardanelles channel and to occupy Constantinople.
  • Battle of Verdun

    The battle between the French and the Germans when new technology for war was being used and very effective. It change the way people battled from then on. They used poisoned gas, armored tanks, and larger artillery. These new weapons killed bigger amount of people more effectively than just using guns.

    Battle of the Somme

    In July of 1916, the British army tried to relieve the pressure on the France. British forces attacked Germany northwest of Verdun, in the valley of the Somme River. By the time the Battle of the Somme ended in November, each side suffered over half a million casualties.
  • Unrestricted Submarine Warfare

    This was when the German’s were sinking merchant (neutral trading) ships without any warning. One of the boats they sank was a passenger ship called the Lusitania, it killed 1,198 people. After two attacks on the German’s by the British they agreed to stop. But in they started doing it again in 1917.

    The germans contnue to bomb US ships, they enter the war in 1917. THey declared war against Germany, So they teamed up with Britian
  • Russian Revolution

    Communist leader Vladimir Ilyich Lenin seized power, seeking to remove Russia from the war by offering Germany a truce.
  • Second Battle of the Marne

    Germany's forces had weakened while the Allies' forces had been strengthened by U.S men. Here at the Second Battle of the Marne, Germans and Allies collided in battle. The Allies had two million American troops and 350 tanks that rode steadily into Germany. The Central Powers then dissolved
  • Armistice Day

    The Armistice was a signing that Germany made to stop fighting. This treaty stopped WWI and brought less conflict throughout the countries.
  • Treaty of versailles

    The Treaty of Versailles between Germany and the Allied powers was signed on June 28, 1919
