  • The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the heir to the Austria-Hungarian throne and he was on a trip to Saravejo with his wife Sopie and was shot in an open car.This was their last time together.
  • Serbias declaration of war and allies

    After Austria rejected Serbias offer, they then declared war. Their ally Russiia ordered troops towards the Austrian border.
  • The Schlieffen Plan

    The Schlieffen Plan was created by General Alfred Graf Von Schlieffen. An important factor in this plan was speed and time, Germany was in war against France and Russia. In order to fight both countries Germany would first race to the west to fight France and then return back to battle Russia. But in order to reach France, Germany had to invade Belgium a neutral country and fight France. The invasion of Belgium caused Great Britain to be involved because Great Britain's ally of Belguim.

    Germans invaded Russia three times, this was a benefit to them since they got guns and horses.
  • Attacking the Germans

    On this day Great Britain an ally of Belgium hit the Germans who were located in the Marne River which was northeast of Paris. It took the Germans four difficult days to change their minds and retreat. The Germans were struggling tryiing to fight the British. The Schlieffen plan was ruined after this.
  • Trench Warfare

    Trench Warfare was a type of method where soldiers dug holes into the ground and attacked enemy forces from that hole. The trenches protected the soldiers from enemy fire.
  • Germans Attack

    Germans attacked the French near Verdun. This battle ended up having both sides lose more than 30,000 men.
  • Battle of Somme River

    Afte the attack by the Germans towards the French near Verdun. Later the British hit the Germans northwest of Verdun in the valley of Somme river. This battle alone caused more than 20,000 British soldiers to be killed. This brutal battle ended in November and both sides lost half a million.
  • Losses

    The combatants suffer from a huge loss of people after the battle of Verdun and Somme. Both sides of the war suffered a ginormous amount of soldiers and people during those battles.
  • Submarine Warfare

    In this year Germans decided to launch a missle attack on any ship without any warnings. They said that they would attack any ship or boat in Britains waters. This stratgey was called the Unrestricted Submarine Warfare.
  • USA joins the War

    President Wilson asked for the Congress consent to declare war. The United States of America joins in on the war and fights side by side with its allies.
  • Involvement in the War

    Communist leader Vladimir Ilyich Lenin had seized and took power. Later he wanted to end the war because of he didn't want his country to be involved in it.
  • Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

    Germany was the first offer a truce against Russia. After Russia agreed to signing to the treaty, thus ending the war between them.
  • The Second Battle of Marne

    Allies and Germany went to war once again they have to clash once more. More than 2 million American troops and their allies came and were headed towards Germany.
  • World War I ends

    After four long years of pain, slaughter and destruction the time came where the countries forged peace, World War I was finally over.
  • The Treaty of Versailles

    The treaty signing was between Germany and the Allied Powers.
