    Jeannette was born April 21st, 1960 in Phoenix, Arizona. She moved from Phoenix at age 3.

    Rex decides it's a good idea to drink and drive. While driving dangerously, Jeannette falls out of the car. Rex does not even notice and keeps driving. In Las Vegas Rex is able to cheat his way through gambling. He is able to support his family until he is caught.
  • Age 5

    The Walls move into an old depot station, where Jeannette and her siblings sleep in old refrigerator boxes. Jeannette starts second grade. Rex is working at a mine.
  • Age 6

    Rex is still unemployed. The kids are left with no food. They end up having to steal from other's kids lunches. Mary tries to kill herself by jumping out of a building but her kids stop her. Marry get's a job as a teacher.

    Jeannette's grandma passes away. Mary is left with her moms house and inheritance money. The Wells' move back to Phoenix when Rex is offered a job. Rex is able to support his family at this time.

    Jeanette tries to stop her dad from drinking. Rex is able to stay sober for about a year. He ends up loosing his job after his drinking becomes problematic.

    Rex steals his kid's life savings and begins hustling to earn money. Lori graduates from high school and moves to New York. She becomes a waitress in New York. Jeanette begins working at a jewelry store and as a babysitter to save up for school in New York.

    After finishing junior year, Jeanette moves to New York. She works at a local newspaper company. Jeanette is able to pay for college through loans and her job on Wall Street. Rex still has a drinking problem and is unable to take care of himself. Lori kicks Mary out. Mary and Rex are left living on the streets of New York.
  • Age 23

    Jeanette graduates from Barnard University. She gets married and creates her own column in a newspaper. Brian becomes a police officer. Rex and Mary are living as squatters and Maureen drops out of college. She ends up moving to California. Rex dies from a heart attack. Later, Jeanette divorces her husband and remarries.

    Jeannette Walls is now a famous author and journalist. She is most famous for her memoir The Glass Castle and Half Broke Horses. A movie has also been produced to convey The Glass Castle.
