  • PlayStation 2 (PS2)

    The PS2 is a gaming system that was made and manufactured by Sony Computer Entertainment. The PS2 was sold until 2012, and by it being sold for this long, it became the most popular gaming system to ever exist, so far. The PS2 mainly was made to compete with other top gaming systems and to just improve the first PlayStation.
  • WiFi

    WiFi is a popular technology that allows a user to be able to connect to the Internet wirelessly as long as it's within a certain range. This is important because people are able to connect nearly everywhere with ranges that can be from 120 feet to over 300 feet. WiFi was developed by John O'Sullivan in 1996, but the term "WiFi" was not actually introduced until 2000.
  • Flash Drive

    The flash drive was supposedly invented by members of the M-System Company in Israel. The flash drive was a huge advancement from the floppy disc, which was just another device used for storing data/etc. The flash drive was and still is very portable, easily accesible, and capable of holding a large amount of memory.
  • iTunes Music Store

    iTunes is both a media player and library that was developed by Apple Inc. You can use iTunes to play, download, and organize music and different types of video. As Apple Inc. continues to upgrade their different devices, iTunes continues to be available on each device. (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad)
  • Wikipedia

    Along with the help of Larry Sanger, Jimmy Wales was able to develope Wikipedia, an online search engine. Wikipedia was an advancement up from Nupedia, which was very similar to Wikipedia except it didn't have a wiki. A wiki is something that allows you to add, modify, or even delete information in agreement with others.
  • Capsule Endoscopy (Camera Pill)

    The technique of capsule endoscopy was invented in Israel. This technique has allowed medical workers to be able to record pictures of the digestive tract. It has greatly helped the medical world because there are different areas in the digestive tract that are not normally able to be seen with other types of endoscopy. The size of the device is literally as small as a regular pill, so it can also be easily digested if not relocated.
  • Bioartificial Liver Device (BAL)

    The bioartificial liver is one of many artificial organs that are made to take place of the actual organ until a transplant can be provided. This device is used in case, for example, someone has liver failure, and inside the bioartificial liver, there are liver cells that help to continue the everyday functions of the liver. This particular device was developed by Dr. Kenneth Matsumura and the Alin Foundation.
  • The First iPod

    When Apple Computers released this iPod, it was an obvious advancement from the recent MP3 players mainly because of the distinct features it possessed. The first MP3 players came out in 1998, so there hadn't been many MP3 players that could really compete with the iPod. The CEO of Apple Inc. is Timothy D. Cook, and after he began working for Apple Inc. in 1998, he gradually worked up to the position he is in currently.
  • Segway Human Transporter

    The Segway human transporter was invented by Dean Kamen. He invented it because he believed that it could help people who might have balance issues or just trouble with walking from place to place. As you may know, the Segway tilts, and when it doesn tilt, sensors on it monitor the operator's gravity over one-hundred times per minute.
  • Braille Glove

    The Braille glove was invented by Ryan Patterson, who at the time, was only eighteen years old. It was a great invention because it allowed deaf people to actually be able to communicate with the public in a way that they all would understand. The Braille glove works when the operator taps certain Braille codes with their fingers, and the sensors that are on the glove send the message(s) back to the operator in word form.
  • Safari

    Safari is a web browser, much like Google, that was developed by Apple Inc. Since Apple continues to update their systems for their devices, Safari also continues improve in different ways. This browser is so important because it was actually created by Apple, so now, with a lot of the new Apple devices (iPhone, iPod), this app is already programmed onto the device.
  • Facebook

    While attending college at Harvard University, Facebook was created by the current CEO, Mark Zuckerburg, and his roomates. Facebook is mainly just an online social media site. This invention is important because its gives people the opportunity to be able to communicate and have fun with other people in ways that do not involve face-to-face contact.
  • YouTube

    YouTube was created by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim, who were former emplyees of PayPal. This creation has allowed people to be able to view videos that can be uploaded by many people around the world. YouTube today is the second largest search engine on the Internet, behind Google. It can be very useful to people who may need to, for example, advertise their business in some way.
  • Global Positioning System (GPS)

    Even though the GPS was invented before the 2000s, it wasn't until 2005 that the GPS was developed with full satellite coverage that could help you actually locate nearly any area you wished. The GPS was originally developed in the 1970s by the U.S. Department of Defense in order to help them locate their units and others' too. Today GPS tracking devices are available on phones, in cars, and almost every hand held device.
  • Loc8tor

    The Loc8tor is a type of tracking device that can detect where your misplaced item is as long as it's within a certain range. There is a tag that you have to attach to the specific item, but after that, the device itself can bring you within inches of the item. The Loc8tor was invented by the Loc8tor company, which also makes Global Positioning System (GPS) systems.
