    Second Continental Congress Meets
    They were a group of loyalsit that met and organized the continental Army and appointed General George Washington to lead the army. They asked Thomas Jefferson to write the Declaration of Independence then they all signed it declaring the colonies free from Great Britain.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    It was the first major battle of the American Revolution it was fought in Charlestown, Massachusetts. The British defeated the Americans in this battle but half of the redcoats were injured or killed by the Americans. The Americans also lost a lot of men but even though the lost the battle it still gave them confidence for the future.
  • Olive Branch Petition Sent

    The Olive Branch Petition was drafted by John Dickerson but was adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 5, 1775 then sent to to King George on July 8, 1775 as a letter. It was the final attempt to avoid war with Great Britain and for the colonies to still remain loyal and to keep the peace with Britain. It was a failed attempt because the King denied the petition. Soon after the Revolutionary war began.

    Common Sense Pamphlet is published
    Common Sense was written by Thomas Paine. He wrote the pamphlet to try to change the minds of people who wanted to peacefully settle things with the British government. He wants to persuade the colonist in the thirteen colonies to join the rebellion to fight for independence from Britain.

    On June 11, 1776, Congress appointed a Committee of Five which was, John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, Thomas Jefferson of Virginia, Robert R. Livingston of New York, and Roger Sherman of Connecticut, to draft a declaration of independence.

    It was also called the Battle of Long Island and was the first major battle of the revolutionary war to take place after the United States declared its independence on July 4, 1776. The British won the battle by defeating George Washington and his army. It led to the loss of New York and the retreat of the Delaware river.

    The Americans won the battle with their commander George Washington. The significance of the conflict was that the British Hessian army was defeated by George Washington's raid across the Delaware River and the Americans were glad about the easy defeat of the British Hessian forces.

    On September 26, 1777 the British captured Philadelphia after General George Washington and the Continental army had defeated the British at the battle Brandywine. The British spent the winter living and enjoying the luxury of the city but fortunately for the Americans they were capable of fighting the British. But when the French joined together with the Americans the French knew they could no longer stay in Philadelphia so to avoid the French they left they left and on June 24 they came back.

    The battle of Saratoga was the turning point of the American Revolution. During the Battle of Saratoga British soldiers and Hessian soilders surrender to the American Armed forces. The exact number of soldiers that surrendered was 5,895 men. The patriots winning the war also convinced France that America could defeat the British so it persuaded them to send troops to help America.

    Valley forge was were the Contintial army made camp during the winer of 1777-1778. Their were 11,000 soldiers stationed there and hundreds of them died from starvation and disease. The men were broken down and were ready to give up and quit but they were held together by loyalty. They were also held together by General George Washington and became a true fighting unit of men. Valley Forge was the turning point of the American Revolution and is often called the birthplace of the American Army.

    The Battle of Yorktown was the last major battle of the American Revolution. The Americans along with help From France defeated the British. The British troops surrender and finally gave up in Yorktown,Virginia because they were waiting from British ships to come from New York to help but they never came. Because they never came the British army surrendered to General George Washington and his troops.
  • Treaty of Paris 1783

    Treaty of Paris 1783
    The Treaty of Paris was signed in Paris on September 3rd, 1783 by representatives like King George III from Great Britian and someone from the United States. It was basically and agreement between the two countries to end the American Revolutionary War.
