The first feature of Wonder Woman was in January 1942 in Sensation Comics (ran by DC Comics). This was during WWII, a period of paranoia and turmoil in the United States. This was also when a huge boom of superheroes occurred in the comic industry. Superhero comics served as a form of comfort for not only Americans but for people around the world affected by the war. Wonder Woman was no different, dressed head to toe in American memorabilia. -
With her red golden eagle tunic and her blue and white star-speckled skirt, she was a walking patriot, fighting for the American cause. She and many other superheroes such as Captain America were embodiments of well-known American values such as bravery, freedom, truth, and justice.
