    The first feature of Wonder Woman was in January 1942 in Sensation Comics (ran by DC Comics). This was during WWII, a period of paranoia and turmoil in the United States. This was also when a huge boom of superheroes occurred in the comic industry. Superhero comics served as a form of comfort for not only Americans but for people around the world affected by the war. Wonder Woman was no different, dressed head to toe in American memorabilia.

    With her red golden eagle tunic and her blue and white star-speckled skirt, she was a walking patriot, fighting for the American cause. She and many other superheroes such as Captain America were embodiments of well-known American values such as bravery, freedom, truth, and justice.
