The Evolution of Web Tools

  • Web 1.0

    Web 1.0 was introduced by Tim Burners-Lee in late
    1989. It is the term used to refer to the first stage of the development of the World Wide Web (www). Web 1.0 is also considered the web of documents (one way information).
  • Web 2.0

    The Term "Web 2.0" was invented by Darcy DiNucci. She used the term in her article, "Fragmented Future".
  • Web 2.0 -The term was officially coined

    The term "Web 2.0" was officially coined by Dale Dougherty, Vice President at O'Reilly Media. Web 2.0 is also called Participative or Social Web (two-way communication, social media, public relations).
  • Web 2.0 became more popular

    Web 2.0 became more popular in 2004 due to the mass of users who were participating in content creation on social networks, blogs, wikis, and media sharing sites.
  • Web 3.0

    Very similar to Web 2.0 but with more advancements. It will be more connected, open and intelligent. Web 3.0 is referred to as "semantic web" or "the intelligent web".
  • Web 4.0

    Web 4.0 is an alternative to what we have now. It is called “Mobile Web”. Web 4.0 will connect all devices in the real world and virtual world in real-time.
  • Web 5.0

    Web 5.0 is called the "symbiotic web" or "emotional web". This type of web will connect humans and computers on an emotional level.
