King Henry takes the Throne

King Henry VIII took the throne in 1509. He was the second son of King Henry VII. His older brother dies though in 1502 making Henry the heir to the throne. He eventually married Catherine of Aragon who was his brothers widow.

Act of Supremacy

Parliament passed a law that required the citizens of England to take an oath that declared King Henry VIII the head of The Church of England. It was the oficial brak from the Roman Catholic Church.

Henry breaks away from the church

May 27, 1534

Henry VIII broke away from the Roman Church because the Pope would not grant him an annullment from Catherine. He believed Catherine could not give him a son. He wanted to end his marraige and marry Anne.

Death of Catherine of Aragon

1536 King marries Jane Seymour

Death of Anne Boleyn

-She was be-headed on May 19 1536
-The King blamed Anne Boleyn for the miscarriage
-Anne Boleyn was tried for treason for adultery and incest
-Anne Boleyn was executed on Tower Hill
-Queen Anne Boleyn arrested and taken to the Tower of London

Edward VI is born

-She birthed the first male heir of Kind Henry VIII
-Was the 3rd wife of King Henry VIII
-She died just twelve days after giving birth
-She was the only one of Henry's queens to be buried with him.
-Jane Seymour may have first come to court in the service of Queen Catherine

Edward becomes king at age 9

-He was the king of England and Ireland.
-He was a very young leader being crowned at age 9.
-His successor was Lady Jane Grey
-He was against the pope as a leader and wrote about him as an anti christ.
-While he lead he was a christian and switched to protestant.

Death of Katherine Parr

-Henry VIII sixth wive
-Most married queen. Had been married four times.
-She wrote a book Prayers of Meditations published under her own name
-She had a close relationship with the Kings three children
-She married quickly and in secret after the death of King Henry VIII

-Became King at the age of 9
-He was the first monarch raised as a Protestant
-He tried to have his half-sisters not become Queens
-During his reign Protestantism was established
-Died at 15 from Tuberculosis

Mary becomes the queen

-She lead to return england to the Roman chuch.
-She also lead so that the bible would be printed in English.
-She reigned for 5 years.
-She killed many people so that her country would go in the right direction.
- Her goal as a leader was to be the opposite of her father.

• Anne died shortly before Mary I, after a brief illness -The 4th wife of King Henry VIII
• The motto of Anne of Cleves was 'God send me well to keep' -The reason King Henry VIII married Anne of Cleves was to gain a Protestant political alliance in Europe.
• The marriage between Henry VIII and Anne of Cleves was not consummated

Queen Elizabeth takes the throne

-She claimed the throne at age 25.
-She defeated the Spanish Armada.
-She went against Mary's ruling.
-She wanted everyone to be protestant.
-She never married so that she could rule better.

-She restored the Roman Catholic Church to England
-She married Philp of Spain
-She was a king's daughter and king's sister and a king's wife.

Act of Supremacy 1559

Queen Elizabeth I had this act passed to bring back the original Act of Supremacy that HenryVIII had passed in 1534 and Queen Mary had repealed. It made the Queen the head of the church of England and she was called the Supreme govenor of the Church of England. It was a crime not to honor the Oath.
