    King Henry VIII took the throne in 1509. He was the second son of King Henry VII. His older brother dies though in 1502 making Henry the heir to the throne. He eventually married Catherine of Aragon who was his brothers widow.

    Queen Elizabeth I had this act passed to bring back the original Act of Supremacy that HenryVIII had passed in 1534 and Queen Mary had repealed. It made the Queen the head of the church of England and she was called the Supreme govenor of the Church of England. It was a crime not to honor the Oath.
