    St. Augustine

    St. Augustine is the oldest permanent English settlement in North America. It was founded in 1565 by a Spanish explorer named Pedro Manendez Aviles. It is located in northeastern Florida.
  • Roanoke Island

    They call Roanoke Island on the coast of North Carolina the lost colony because the people who settled there are lost and just dissapeared. Roanoke was the second English colony in North America. The man who started this colony was Sir Walter Raleigh.
  • Jamestown

    Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in North America. The expadition was led by Captain Christopher Newport. They went on the expadition searching for silver, gold, a passage to the South Sea or the Pacific Ocean, to trade with Native Americans, and to harvest. And on May 24th they settled 60 miles from Chesepeake Bay. They named their town Jamestown in honor of King James the 1st of England. In 1608 Captain John Smith took over the colony.
  • Plymouth

    Plymouth was the 2nd permanent English colony in North America. The pilgrims arrived on a boat called the Mayflower. In 1620 they settled on the west Cape Cod Bay in Massachusetts. The pilgrims came for the right of faith. In 1691 it became part of the Massachusetts Bay colony.
  • New Netherland

    New Netherland was a Dutch colony in the early 1600's. It is located in parts of Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York. Some settlers from England started the colony in 1621.
  • Williamsburg

    Williamsburg was created in 1633. They picked that land because there were less mosquitoes then there were in Jamestown. Williamsburg is located in Virginia. They named their town Williamsburg in honor of King William the 3rd of England.
  • New Sweden

    New Sweden was the only Swedish colony in America. It is located on the Delaware River on the coast of New Jersey. They started the colony in 1638. It was founded by govener Peter Stuyvesannt.
  • The Pennsylvania Colony

    In the years of 1644-1718 a man named William Penn started and named the colony of Pennsylvania as you might guess because his last name is in the word. He was English so he had to ask King Charles the 2nd before he started the colony.
