    This was started around 1810 and was a passage of how the slaves would escape. This is important becuase slaves got out and told the North how bad it was and enraged them.
  • MIssouri compromise

    This was made by Henry Clay in 1820. Slavery was allowed south of the parallel 36 degrees 30' north and the state of Missouri. This contributed to the war because this is the first time there was a documentation of the South and North being divided.

    This was meant to help the industry. This was important for the war because it helped the North grow stronger.
  • Nat Turner's Slave Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Slave Rebellion
    Nat turner and a bunch of slaves killed 55-65 people. This was important because it was a small fight that would eventually lead to a whole civil war.
  • Wilmot Proviso

    Wilmot Proviso
    This was the plan for outlawing slavery in the area acquired by the United States from the Mexican war between 1846-48. This helped lead to the war because the government was almost saying that slavery was wrong by outlawing it and showing opposition. This happened before the war was even over.

    All runaway slaves had to be returned. This helps provoke the war because it shows that the South treats these people like they are posessions with little respect.

    This is an anit-slavery book written by Harriett Beecher Stowe. This was important because it made the slaves want to revolt.

    Kansas and Nebrasks got to pick if they were slave or free. This was important because they could have changed the whole outcome of the war with who they picked.

    This showed the no slave had a stand in court. This is important because it enraged the slaves who would fight for their rights.
