John Brown was an abolitionist with a plan, a drive, and a militia. Once he had sought out a slave trade vessel, he knew what he had to do. This was Harper ferry. Brown and his men raided the ship, and took refuge from the onslaught of other southern militias with opposing views. Eventually he was captured, and sentenced to death.
