  • NAACP

    The NAACP was founded in 1909 on February 12 their method was to use lawyers and courts to argue the Education received by African -American students was interently inferior since it sent the message African American children weren't good enough.
  • LULAC

    -Largest and Oldest Hispanic organization in the U.S.
    - Goal was to advance economic condition, education opportunities for Hispanics
  • Mendez vs. Westminster

    The previous situation that this cause is the Brown v. B.O.E. The ruling of this case was that California had desegregate its public schools and allowed anyone to join. California became the first State to desegregate its public schools.
  • Delgado vs. Bastrop ISD

    Delgado vs. Bastrop ISD is a court case which prohibited the segregation of Mexican -Americans in Texas illegal. A problem arose when Mexican -Americans were forced to attend inferior public schools. In 1947, a Federal Court District Judge stated that the segregation of Mexican - Americans was unconstitutional.
  • Desegration of the U.S Military

    Executive order 9981 was an executive order issued on July 26,1948 by President Harry S. Truman. It abolished racial discrimination in the USA and eventually led to the end of segregation in the services.
  • 22 Amendment Passed 1951

    Limits the president to only two 4 year terms in office. Before 22 amendment presidents TRADITIONALLY served a max of two terms following the example set by George Washington . FDR broke this tradition as he served 4 terms after FDR death people realized this was bad for the country this led to the 22 Amendment.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1957

    The civil rights act to increase African -American voting in the South.The act created the civil rights commission and established a civil rights division in the U.S. Justice department.The law gave Federal court the power to register African -American Voters.
  • Southern Christian Leadership

    The SCL African American Civil Right Organization closely associated with martin luther king had large role in American civil rights was established in 1957 to coordinated the action of local peaceful protest for african american civil rights throughout the south.
  • Student Non-VIolent Coordinating Committee

    Important organization of civil rights movement in 1960's. Purpose was civil rights movement, anti-racism, participative democracy and pacifism formed to give younger blacks more voice in civil rights movement. Had sit-ins at lunch, marches were organized.Started February 1960 in greensboro, North C. B set up 1st meeting.
  • 23RD AMENDMENT JUNE 16 1960

    The historical cause of it being possible at the time was because it gave the people who lived in Washington D.C. the right to vote for representatives or a President. The effect is the amendment was to ensure that the Provisions of the 23rd amendment are enforced and Washington D.C. has its electrical votes applied to elections

    The organization for woman(NOW) is an American feminist organization founded in 1966.The organization consists of 550 chapters in all 50 U.S. States and the district of Columbia.
  • Laraza Unida:Early 1970's

    La Raza Unida (National United Peoples Party or United Race Party) is a former Hispanic Political Party centered on Mexican -American nationalism.It was born in the early 1970's and became important throughout Texas and Southern California. The main figures were Jose Angel Gutierrez and Cesar Chavez.

    The situation was that the supreme court ruled TX children do not have the fundamental right to have an education vs. constitution. The ruling was that a Mexican legal group Filed Suit against Kirby. The result of this was the public schools funding made differences in schools.
