    The First Camera

    The First Camera
    The first cameras were called pinhole cameras. They could only view images. Their original purpose was to observe cosmic events. It could not take photographs, it only created projections. However, it was a large step towards later cameras that COULD take photographs. It was also known as the camera obscura. It was created by the peoples of ancient China and Greece.
  • The Daguerreotype Camera

    The  Daguerreotype Camera
    Louis Daguerre developed a camera that, in 30 minutes, could develop and image only using light exposure. This was based on Joseph Niepce's idea to use silver nitrate to develop photographs. However, only the very wealthy could afford them. Daguerreotypes were some of the most expensive cameras ever made.
  • The Kodak Camera

    The Kodak Camera
    George Eastman created the Kodak camera. It had 100 rolls of film inside. People would take photos until the camera was at full capacity, then send the camera back to the company to have the photos printed out.
  • The Polaroid Camera

    The Polaroid Camera
    The Polaroid camera was created by Edwin Herbert. The Polaroid camera was able to develop a photograph in only a minute. The image was then printed out from the camera itself. This was so revolutionary because before, you had to send off your photos to have them developed and printed.

    Polaroid releases Polacolour, the first hand-held camera with colored film. Now, everyone could have pictures in color, not just the extremely rich.
  • The First Digital Camera

    The First Digital Camera
    The first digital camera was developed by Steven Sasson. It could only take photos in black in white, however, it developed them in seconds. All photographs taken on the device were saved to a cassette tape.
  • Smartphone Cameras

    Smartphone Cameras
    In this day and age, almost everyone has a smartphone, and almost everyone has one current enough to have a camera. Because of the digital age, everyone now has access to quick, high quality photos. Smartphones have had cameras since 2007, but I just put 2018 for the year because I was only allowed to put one year.
