  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    There would now be taxes on molasses and sugar and no rum or spirits could be imported. The sugar act also increased enforcement of smuggling laws. It was passed because the Molasses Act would soon expire and because it would give more money to Great Britain.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The colonists were required to pay tax on every piece of paper that they used, newspapers, legal documents, licenses, and more. The reason why the act was passed was so that the British could put troops around the mountains to protect their land. This caused the colonist to become upset over the new enforced act.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act required that the colonist would house British soldiers if there wasn't enough room then local inns, or stables had to take them in. If a colonist were to refuse then they would face criminal charges. The act was passed so that Great Britian didn't have to provide as much shelter to their soliders in the Colonies.
  • The Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act
    The act stated that tea, glass, red lead, white lead, painters colors, tea, and paper would start to be taxed. The act was passed because it wasn't that long after the French-Indian War and they were still in debt. The colonist began to boycott the goods that were being taxed and protested.
  • Boston Port Act

    Boston Port Act
    The Boston Port Act was a reinforcement of the Quartering act and closed down Boston's port. This meant that no shipments could be sent out or received. The act was passed because of the Boston Tea Party and was a way of punishing the colonist.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    Any tea bought would now be taxed, on top of that, the colonists were only allowed to buy tea from the company East India. The act was passed so that the company of East India would receive more profit. This made the colonist protested and it was one of the causes for the Boston Tea Party.
  • MA Government Act an the Administration of Justice Act

    MA Government Act an the Administration of Justice Act
    This act stated that no meeting or lawful event in the colonies could happen without the king or a representative of his being there. This act was passed to give more power to Britain to make sure the colonies weren't doing anything that they disliked. The colonists were extremly angry about the act and oposed it.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    The Quebec Act allowed French Canadians to have religious freedom and restored French laws. It was passed because they believed that French Canadians would be satisfied with it and to make sure they were on good terms with the Province of Quebec. The colonist felt as if it was passed to take away more freedom of the colonies.
