The battle of vurdun started in early 1916, It was in a small city called verdon that was 260 kilometeres away from paris. The germans started this war to try and break through the city and get through to paris.

The Germans attacked the west bank of the meuse river targeting two hills northwest of Vedun . By the end of march the hills were only partially in german hands.

After a 10 months of back and fourth attacks that happened the longest battle of ww1 ended on the 18th of december 1916. The french army lost arounf 550,000 men in this battle and the german army suffered around 434,000 casualties with about half of those bieng death. It was a very bad war for both countried but the french were said to be victorious. In my opinion both sides did not win as they both lost many soldiers and had numerous injuries.
