    The Aztec civilization began in 1325 A.D. The Aztec capital Tenochtitlán was founded as well. They used to be a poor tribe but this is when they began to get more powerful.

    The Aztecs language was Nahuatl. It was the most popular language in the 1350s. Many of their words were taken by the Spanish and then later the english.

    In 1400 C.E. there were many small empires. The two dominant ones were the Texcoco and the Azcapotzalco. The Aztecs joined in then when they faced off in 1428 C.E. in the Tepanec War.

    The Aztecs began the alliance of three. This included Texcoco, Tlacopan, and The Aztecs. They ruled till 1428 A.D.

    Montezuma The First took over in 1440. He was remembered as a great warrior and leader. He was then known as the Father of the Aztec Empire.

    From 1502-1520 was the reign of Montezuma The Second. Hernan Cortez arrived and the Aztecs thought that he was a god. Using this advantage Cortez took over and enslaved the Aztecs.

    Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba (Hernán Cortez) was the first european to arrive in Mexico in 1517. Him and his crew of about 100 arrived from Cuba. They led to the downfall and destruction of the Aztec Empire.

    In the early 16th century the Aztecs ruled over 500 small states. They also had about 5 to 6 million people in those states. Tenochtitlán at it’s greatest it’s population was about 140,000.
