The Aztec capitol “Tenochtitlán” was founded in the year 1325. Currently, it is where Mexico City is. The place was named after a bird.

In 1427, the third Aztec king is killed. He is said to be assassinated by the Tepaneca. This then causes a 4 year war with them.

In 1428, the Aztec joined forces with two other tribes. These tribes were called the Texcocans and the Tacubans. Together, the three tribes overtook the Tepanec, and their capitol, Azcapotzalco.

In 1431, the Aztec create a three way alliance. These tribes include the Mexica, the Acolhua in the city Texcoco, and the Tepaneca of Tlacopan. These three tribes would go on to defeat the tribe of Tepanecs, breaking their previous allience.

In 1452, Tenochtitlan is attacked by a large flood. This causes a lot of damage. This also starts a famine that lasts 3 years.

In 1487, the Aztec temple Templo Mayor is finished. The temple was built to worship the sun god Huitzilopochtli. The temple had many “festivities” that were done by the current king, Ahuitzotl.

Ahuitzotl was one of the many Aztec kings. While the date is unknown, it is said he died in 1503. He was the eigth king in the Aztec line.

In 1517, a large meteor crashes down. This was believed by the Aztec’s to imply incoming disaster. This does happen to be true, if you consider what happens in the next 5 years.

in June, 1520, a spanish Conquistador named Hernan Cortez meets the Aztec’s. Foolishly believing he is a god, they let him stay with them. This results in the current king, Montezuma ll, to be killed on June 30.

On August 13, 1521, the spanish attack the Aztecs again. After the fight, the spaniards take over Tenochtitlan. In the coming years, the spanish also take the life of the eleventh king,Cuitláhuac.
