  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon's Rebellion

    A rebellion in which settlers, frontiersmen, indentured servants, and slaves revolted against governor, William Berkley, and beginning to stir up ideas that would influence the American Revolution. The racial caste was hardened, and Virginia Slave Codes were passed to avoid their reuniting in the future.

    An enslaved man from Boston sues for his freedom after moving to London. He was a baptized member of the Church of England. The British law determined that because of Somerset’s case a slave was not able to be re-captured after leaving the colonies therefore

    This was a rebellion in France against the poor citizens and the monarchy. It established the National Assembly which would lead to the petition for black freedom in Saint Domingue.

    Rebellion in Saint Domingue

    Each man of color desperately wanted to claim freedom for themselves. Caught up in the spirit of the French Revolution, Black Slaves petitioned the National Assembly for their rights. After rejection and Civil War, the National Assembly approved the requests. The slave population then revolted in 1791, killing master and burning down plantations. Video
