    The Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord was the first battle in the American revolution.The first shots were fired in Lexington (Shot heard round' the world). The militia were outnumbered and fell back, and the British proceeded on to Concord, where they searched for the supplies.
  • Continental Army

    Continental Army

    George Washington and Benedict Arnold created a Continental Army at the second Continental Congress.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill

    Red Coats had won, but at a tremendous cost. More than 1,00 soldiers were killed or wounded, compared to some 400 militia casualties. The militia held its own against the worlds most powerful army.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Decaration of Independence explained reasons for breaking away from Britian. It declared the colonies to be free and independent states. John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin were on the committee appointed by the Continental Congress.

    Washington lead the continental army against Hessian soldiers at Trenton after crossing the Delaware River. Almost all of the Hessian force was captured and not many Americans died. The battle boosted the continental army's morale, and it inspired reenlistment.

    British Lieutenant Colonel Archibald Campbell and his force launched a surprise attack on American forces defending Savannah, Georgia.
  • Battle of Kettle Creek

    This battle was minor comapred to other battles during this time. Patriots took weapons from the loyalists. In this battle, a black slave, Austin Dabeny, serving for Elijah Clarke, was injured badly. He was healed by a local doctor and then served him for the rest of his life, even though he was free from serving.

    This was the 2nd bloodiest battle of the Revolution. This was supposed to be a siege, but it turned to a violent takeover.
  • Capture of Charleston

    After the Siege of Savannah, Americans suffer their worst defeat of the revolution. general Horatio Gates and his army of 10,000 at Charleston, South Carolina. British captured more than 3,000 Patriots and a great quantity of munitions and equipment, losing only 250 killed and wounded in the process.

    Baron Johan de Kalb was a German officer who had served in the French Army and came from France with Marquis de Lafayette. He died from 11 wounds in the Battle of Camden.

  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown

    The Americans, lead by general George Washington, bombarded the French, lead by General Lord Charles Cornwallis. General Lord Charles Cornwallis surrendered. Yorktown was the last major battle fo the war.
  • British leave Savannah

    British leave Savannah

    British Royal Governor Sir James Wright, along with several civil officials and military officers, flee the city of Savannah, Georgia, and head to Charleston, South Carolina.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Included 6 conditions:
    - U.S. was independent
    - established U.S. boundaries bewtween British North America
    - prisoners of both sides would be released
    - both sides would pay off any debts
    - Patriots would return land to colonists
    -U.S. could fish off of Canada's coast
