The Declaration of Independence was basically a list of complaints from the colonists to King George III. It was written by Thomas Jefferson. It's important because it was the start of our country.

    French Officer Marquis de Lafayette decided to come to the colonies to help the Americans fight the British. Since Lafayette was not only experinced in military, but also came from a wealthy family, he helped the Americans a lot. It's important because Lafayette benefited Americans.

    Winter at Valley Forge
    The winter at Valley Forge was brutal for the American Continental Army. They came and set up camp there for the winter. 2,000 out of the 12,000 soldiers died from disease and starvation.     The British move the war down south because the people and benefits there gave them an advantage. They captured Charleston in South Carolina. It's important because it was the beginning of a new location of the war.

    This battle took place in Camden South Carolina. The French military officer, Baron de Kalb, was killed in this battle. The British won.
