    The American Colonization Society had the idea to free slaves and let them go back to there homes in afirca.

    a white student was publicly wiped in Nashville, Tennessee for having abolitionist literature while he was going through the city.
  • Elijah Lovejoy

    in 1837 a warehouse was attacked by a pro-slavery mob. this was an attempted to destroy any abolitionist press materials. Unfortunately a news paper editor named Elijah Lovejoy.
  • Laws Inflame Tensions

    Congress pasted the Fugitive Slave Act. They needed all the escaped enslave people to return to their owners.

    The attack on the warehouse was called the Kansas-Nebraska Act. when the attack passed both salvory groups took over the Kansas Territory.

    the town of Lawrence was attacked by a pro slavery group. This town was founded by abolitionists. In reply, there was a raid which killed 5 pro-slavery settlers. This was organised by John Brown.

    in 1859 John Brown wanted to capture the U.S. Arsenal. He did so, at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. 21 men were led there by him. they were caught and Brown was hanged.

    By 1860 12,000 African Americans were able to return back to Africa.
