    Virgin and Child
This is an oil painting by Elisabetta Sirani. Sirani was an Italian Baroque painter and printmaker, and established an academy for other women artists. This painting represents Mary as a young mother that adores her child, represent the young women who become mothers at a young age that lived in Bologna regardless of how the became mothers. This picture stood out to me because I am also a mother to a 1 year old and it just really touched my heart at how loving she is towards her baby.

A Portrait of a Young Girl
This oil painting was created by Mary Beale. In this painting the woman is sitting profile style facing her right side. The woman also seems to observe the viewer discreetly from the corner of her eye. This painting really stood out to me because of it's strong contrasts and the effects of light to emphasize the figure’s face and expression. I think that this picture represents how somber a woman can be but yet aware of her surroundings and who is watching her.
