    Cabeza de Vaca
    On Galveston island, Cabeza de Vaca shipwrecked. He visited the Texas interior on his way to Mexico after trading in the region for 6 years.

    Francisco was a Spainard looking for treasures. He led an expedition in Northern Texas. However, he returned negative.

    La Salle
    Sier de LaSalle claimed Texas for France by establishing Fort St. Louis.

  • Austin's Grant

    Austin's Grant
    Stephen F. Austin began a colonization with permission from the Mexican government via a grant. He took the Old 300 along with him to Texas.
  • Mexican Independence

    Mexican Independence
    The Mexican were given a republican form of government due to the Constitution of 1824, but did not define the rights of the states correctly.
  • Austin Imprisoned

    Austin Imprisoned
    Stephen Austin was imprisoned under the command of Santa Anna, who claimed him to have incited insurrection. This was because Austin and his gruop of Anglo-American colonists demanded a new constitution for the colonists, which ensured the colonists their rights, since many were angry over the unjust rule. This was when Austin was trrown into prison. Eight months later starting from 1/3/1834 to August, 1835, Austin was released from Mexico with his supporters on the brink of rebellion.

    The Battle of Gonzales
    This battle was the first battle in the Texas Revolution. A shhort fight resulted with one casualty on the Mexican side, but no casualties for the Texns. The "Come and Take it Flag" gained its recognition in this war as it was printed below a cannon that had been provided for the Texans.

    Battle of Alamo
    The vanguard of Santa Anna's army arrived in San Antonio arrived at the Alamo, ready to fight with 189 men under command of Jim Bowie and William B. Travis. However, the defenders failed, but the Mexicans lost 1600 men compared to 189 in the Texan army.

    Runaway Scrape begins
    The Runaway scrape was a time of panic in which the Mexican army swept in virtually unstopped. Many Texans left their homes and brang valuables with them.
  • Massacre at Goliad

    Massacre at Goliad
    In a battle on the open prarie, some 350 men waved a white flag of truce. The were escorted to Goliadd as prisoners, but Santa Anna refused to take them as prisoners, but wanted them dead. Thus, they were massacredd, collected into piles, and burned.

    Battle of San Jacinto
    750 Texans against 1500 Mexicans at the Battle of San Jacinto resulted as a Texan sucess. Shouts of "Remember the Alamo" and "Remember Goliad" ran along the entire Texan line and the slew 700 Mexicans and 730 were taken as prisoners. The battle for Texas was won.

    James Polk signed a legislation that officialy named Texas as the 28th state in the United Sates.
  • Texas secedes and joins the Confederacy

    Texas secedes and joins the Confederacy
    Texas elected delegates to decide what order of action they sould make. They concluded to secede along with the oter Southerners. There were very little that disagreed with this verdict along with Sam Houston.
  • Battle of Galveston - The Bayou City

    Battle of Galveston - The Bayou City
    Galveston was taken by the Union. There were no forces in Texas to stop them. However, they soon created a defense system and a plan to recaputre Galveston. A sucessful ship was the Bayou City that overpowered the Union boat crews. Eventually, the Confederates were sucessful and their island was still Texas'.
