    Most Significant Days in History

  • Last Spike Driven for Canadian Pacific Railway

Last Spike Driven for Canadian Pacific Railway
I think the last spike driven for the Canadian Pacific Railway shook the world because the railway helped Canada a lot. The railway played a major part in the promotion of tourism and immigration. Without the railway, Canada would not be what it is today.
  • Liberal Victory, P.M Laurier

    Liberal Victory, P.M Laurier
I think the victory of Wilfred Laurier shook the world because he was the leader that would take Canada into the 20th century. Wilfred Laurier could speak French and English, which made the French Canadians a little happier. Wilfred Laurier was strongly against conscription, which was very helpful for Canadians later on.
  • Battle at Vimy Ridge

    Battle at Vimy Ridge
I think the battle at Vimy Ridge shook the world because it was one of the most important battles in World War One. The battle way very hard for Canadians to win because the Germans were on the top of a hill, and Canadians had to go up with little cover. By winning Vimy Ridge, Canadian troops got more land, more prisoners, and more guns. Without the victory at Vimy Ridge, the war could have been a lot different.
  • Winnipeg General Strike

    Winnipeg General Strike
I think the Winnipeg general strike shook the world because it was the biggest and most influential strike in Canadian history. The strike showed a lot of people that workers have rights and should be heard as much as the leaders of the businesses. Even know people died during the strike, it was for a good cause and it changed the Canada for the better.
  • The Stock Market Crash

    The Stock Market Crash
I think the stock market crash in New York shook the world because everybody started hoarding their money. When people start hoarding their money there was not a lot of trade between Canada and the US, which then caused Canada’s economy to collapse very quickly. people started losing their jobs and almost everything went downhill from there.
  • Canada Declares War on Germany

    Canada Declares War on Germany
I think Canada declaring war on Germany shook the world because I was the first time Canada declared war by itself. After Canada declared war everybody was very scared and relived their worst nightmare. when Canada declared war, troops starting to head out to help the Allied powers even though they were scared and afraid.
  • Normandy Landings

    Normandy Landings
I think the Normandy Landings shock the world because over 5,000 Canadians died. When Canadians got to the landing spot, German soldiers were already set up and shooting at them. There were so many deaths at Juno Beach, that the water was dyed a bright red. The Normandy landing was one of the most deadly and significant days in World War One.
  • Canadian Bill of Rights Approved

    Canadian Bill of Rights Approved
I think the Canadian Bill of Rights shook the world because of the first federal law to protect human rights. The Bill of Rights give freedom to everybody in Canada. There are ten amendments in the Bill of Rights, but the first amendment is the most important. The first includes freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion,Freedom of assembly, and right to petition the government. The Canadian Bill of Rights is the thing that protects a lot of people’s beliefs and freedom.
  • Charter Comes into Effect

    Charter Comes into Effect
I think the Charter of Rights shook the world because it was like the Canadian Bill of Rights, but way more powerful. The charter of rights is a much broader human rights law, and it applies to the federal and provincial government. Unlike the Bill of Rights, the Charter of Rights is part of the constitution, which is the highest law.
  • The Oka Crisis

    The Oka Crisis
I think the Oka Crisis shook the world because it showed that people will do anything to protect the stuff they love. Aboriginal’s had a standoff between protesters, Police and the Army for 78 days. Two soldiers died during the event, and it was very uncalled for. In my opinion, instead of a Golf Course, there should’ve been a gravesite built to remember the fallen people. The standoff was very crucial for the Royal Commission of Aboriginal People today.
