    Public law 89-10 was created to insure low income families access to high quality schools. Free and reduced lunches were introduced along with making sure children who need additional support are benefiting from public schooling systems.
  • Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children (PARC) v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

    Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children (PARC) v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    This court case fought to end the exclusion of individuals with disabilities from public education and training. Pennsylvania was then not allowed to deny any schooling or training from children with disabilities.
  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act (EAHCA)

    Education for All Handicapped Children Act (EAHCA)
    Public law 94-142 was created to require schools to provided free public schooling for children with disabilities from ages 5-18. This also required IEP's or individualized education programs.

    This court case ruled that a student can't be expelled from school for behavior that is related to their disability.
  • Americans with Disablities ACT (ADA)

    Americans with Disablities ACT (ADA)
    Public Law 101-336 was passed by George H.W. Bush, which prohibited discrimination against people with disabilities in the private sector. Equal opportunities for employment, transportation, schooling and public services are also protected.
  • Individulas with Disablities Education Act (IDEA)

    Individulas with Disablities Education Act (IDEA)
    Public Law 101-476 was created and took place of P.L. 94-142. This law established "people-first language" when referring to someone with a disability. Schools must provide bilingual education programs for students with disabilities. Social work, technology and rehabilitation services are also included.

    This court case ruled that under IDEA students must be provided with the services they need at no extra cost to their parents.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
    Created by George W. Bush to improve performance of elementary schools and secondary schools by increasing accountability for student learning. Students are also allowed to pick their schools of choice based on the production of the school.
