  • Analog Camera

    Analog Camera
Louis Daguerre created the first practical photographic process, the daquerrotype, where a silver-plated sheet of copper and silver iodide, which was light-sensitive. This process was invaluable to the further development of analog cameras. Having a way to capture images in the 19th century created a way of preserving history. From a remote sensing perspective, the first aerial photography came from hot air balloons and birds with cameras attached.
  • Sputnik I

    Sputnik I
The first satellite was launched by the Soviet Union in 1957 and this really became a highlight of the beginning of the Cold War. During this time, science in space was flourishing and Sputnik became a shock to the rest of the world. I included this advancement because of my experience in a remote sensing course where I learnt more about satellite imagery, therefore this event is significant for me.
  • First Video game Console

    First Video game Console
The first video game console was from Magnavox and contained a printed circuit board. Ralph Bauer began development four years earlier. This console is significant as it formed the base of what many consoles became and when microprocessor-based consoles were introduced, video games began to flourish. I chose this as a significant event because though 'games' have been developed since the fifties, this event allowed them to become mainstream.
  • Digital Camera

    Digital Camera
Steven Sasson from Eastman Kodak, made the first self-contained electronic camera that used a charge-coupled device image sensor. The digital camera became revolutionary in how images can be preserved and permanent. In remote sensing, images can be altered so that different wavelengths are used to capture certain reflectance values.
  • First Web Browser

    First Web Browser
Berners-Lee completed the first web browser on the NeXT Computer, known as the WorldWideWeb. The web today has expanded to many sites and most people in the world have access to the internet. This development has most definitely made it easier to connect to people and has shaped me as well, because I've always known what the internet was in my life.
