    Began with Austrian shelling of Belgrade that was followed by a millitary invasion of Austria-Hungary into Serbia on August 12th.
    The Serbian army had 420,000 people and were left with, give or take, 100,000 men after the battle.
    They lost 60% of their male population, not to mention 27% of their total population.

    Even though the Germans were wildly outnumbered by two large Russian armies, the Germans made an impact on Russia by taking out most of the first army.
    Russians suffered 170,000 causualities while the Germans only suffered 12,000.
  • Battle of the Marnes (The First)

    The battle caused Germany to stop attacking for a month.
    6 French armies and 1 British army fought around the Marne river. Even though the Allies won, they had given 263,000 lives. The Germans only gave 220,000.
  • Gallipoli Campaign

    Ended January 9th 1916
    Austrailian and New Zealand soldiers began to think that they were seperate countries from Britain.
    The Gallipoli front eventually went into the same trench warfare as seen on the Western Front as British, Australian and New Zealand armies clashed with the Turks.
  • Verdun

    Over 976,000 casualties.
    Ended December 18th, 1916.
    The French managed to take back most of the ground they had lost to the Germans, including Fort Douaumont, but lost about 542,000 casualties, while the Germans lost about 435,000.
    Nearly 40 million artillery shells were exchanged during the battle, marking the area with craters which are still visible today.

    The battle was an Allied victory, but they paid a heavy price of 623,906 casualties. Germany lost about 600,000 men, too.
    The British prepared for the offensive with several days of artillery barrage on the German lines. On the beginning day of the battle, the British lost 60,000 men including the death of 19,240 in only one day. It was the greatest single day loss of life in the history of the British Army.

    The aim of the battle was to break through a village of Passchendaele, located in West Flanders of Belgium, and beat back the Germans.

    The Allies managed to stop Germany, who lost about 680,000 men because of their attempt to push forward.The allies still lost over 850,000 men in the result of Germany's stubborn-ness.

    The multiple offenses were towards the end of WW1.Germany finally broke, and it was a huge success for the Allies. The Germans sustained heavy casualties, 785.733, but the allies paid quite enough, losing a total of 1,069,636 casualties, including 127,000 Americans.
    This forced the Germans to sign a peace treaty and back out of the war.
