Jayavarman Vll was regarded as the greatest of ll Khemer rulers. He waged war against Champa for 22 years and conquered much of its land. he was a follower of the Mahayana Buddhism religion and made this new state religion. Under his reign the Khemer's built Angkor Thom (meaning 'great city') along with other temples, roads, hospitals and rest-houses for travellers and traders.
