Portuguese discovers Taiwan
1585- Portuguese sails through Taiwan strait. Then they find Taiwan then they shouts IIHA FORMOSA which means beautiful island.Because the island is a very beautiful island. -
The Ming Dynasty
In 1624, The Ming dynasty defeated the Dutch on Penghu Island but even after defeating them the Ming government decided to agree to the peace treaty the Dutch offered fo they didn't think that Taiwan was their territory. They still were threatened by the Manchurians though so they sought the help of Cheng Zhi-long and rebuilt their forces again but the Ming dynasty were still growing weaker till the verge of collapse. The last Ming emperor fell in battle in by the Ching forces. -
Spanish
The Spanish established a fort on PenghuIsland but after 17 years they were defeated by the Dutch giving them a chance to control the land. -
The Amazing Zeelandia was built!
The dutch built a fort called "Zeelandia" in na location of Tainan-Taiwan. It cntinued until 1st of february 1662 -
1680~1880
The Manchu emperors were not eager to extend their rule over through the islands. Immigration to the island from the coastal places to China increased though the people came to flee the wars and famines on the mainland. -
Ching Dynasty comes in
October, 1681 when Ching dynasty had the complete control over Taiwan, they aimed to put an end to the Cheng regime. During this time Kang-Shi , the emperor of Taiwan put Shi Lang, a guy who betrayed the Cheng people as the country’s naval commander in charge of the assault in Taiwan. Shi Lang knew Taiwan very well. -
19th century
China had influence at all in the coastal waters around Taiwan.In the 1870’s,Taiwanese pirates captured American, Japan, and French ships passing the islands. The governments protested to Peking, but the Manchu emperor said, “Taiwan is beyond our territory.” (Taiwan didnt have any flag then) French got upset because of the attacking by Taiwanese pirates. So they sent navy fleet to Taiwan so, Taiwan was ruled by the French for nine months in 1884~85. -
Japanese Era
The Japanese took over Taiwan in 1895, they developed the Taiwanese educations and helped Taiwan develop. There were 3 governers Motonori Kabayama, Karo Kastura and Maresuke Nogi which ruled Taiwan at this time. -
Taiwan
TheTaiwanese kicked the Japanese out of the Taiwan. The Taiwan Republic had begun. -
Japanese era ended
The Japanese people went out of Taiwan because they had other things to care about, like the world war one.
